Reyn Callao talks “Seryoso”

Reyn Callao once dreamt of becoming a singer, a performer, and a music artist. Now, he’s starting to fulfil that dream in his own little way as the first local Ilonggo artist groomed by rslphoenix music, an independent group of musically-inclined artists in Iloilo City. In a casual chat, he reveals more about his humble beginning. Of course, he talks in Ilonggo since his first independent single is an Ilonggo song entitled “Seryoso.”

Paano ka nahilig sa musika? (How did you get interest in music?)
Reyn: Halin pa sang una mahilig na ako sa musika kay bisan ang akon tatay kag magulang nga lalaki mahilig na magkanta. Ang tatay ko sang una miyembro sang banda kag bisan ano nga instrumento kabalo sya magtukar. Ang magulang ko naman nga lalaki kilala sa amon lugar nga mayo magkanta. Subong na ara sya sa Manila bilang myembro sang rock band. Ako naman naimpluwensyahan nila asta na nahiligan ko man magkanta. (Eversince I’m interested in music because my father and older brother are fond of singing. My father used to be a member of a band and he can play any kind of musical instruments. My older brother is a popular singer in our place. Now, he’s in Manila as part of a rock band. They influenced me until I got interested in singing too)

Paano ka magsulat sang imo mga kanta? (How do you write your songs?)
Reyn: Kon inspirado ko magsulat sang kanta, ginasulat ko ini sa akon cellphone, ginatipon hasta matapos kag isulat sa papel. Didto ko na tigaan sang tono kag kay-uhon. (when I’m inspired to write songs, I write it in my cellphone, I collect it until it is done and write it in a paper. Then, I’ll give it a tune and put arrangements)

Paano mo ginsulat ang imo una nga single nga “Seryoso”? (How did you write your first single “Seryoso”?)
Reyn: Sa tuod lang, ang “Seryoso” ginsulat ko para sa debut sang isa ko ka abyan mga duha na katuig ang nakaligad. Paborito ko guid nga daan ang kanta ni Chris Brown nga “With You” gani naisipan ko nga himuan sang Ilonggo version para sa debut nga ginkantahan ko. Damo nanamian kag pirme lang ginarequest sang mga barkada ko nga kantahon kon diin nga mga okasyon. (Actually, i wrote “Seryoso” for a debut party of a friend almost two years ago. I really like the song of Chris Brown’s “With you” so it came across my mind to make an Ilonggo version for the debut party where I performed. A lot of people like my song and my friends always requests me to song it in any kind of occasions)

Ano ang nabatyagan mo subong kay ginrecord mo na kag gatukar na sa radyo ang imo kanta?
(How do you feel now that you recorded it and your song is being played in the radio?)
Reyn: Kanami sang pamatyag ko eh kay simple man lang hamdum ko sang una nga mabatian ko lang bisan isa lang ka kanta ko sa radyo. Pero kon magmayo lang tani, gusto ko gid makarecord sang original song kag makaobra sang album bisan diri lang sa Iloilo. (I feel great because I only have a simple dream which is to hear my song on the radio. But if everything goes well, I want to record my own original song and make an album even if it will be released in Iloilo)

Ano ang mensahe mo sa mga kabataan nga may talento sa musika? (What is your message for young people who have talent in music?)
Reyn: Tani indi sila matak-an sa ila gusto himuon kag ambisyon bisan ano kabudlay. Basta ipakita lang nila ang ila talento kag makapasadya sa iban nga tawo tama na ina. Kinahanglan nila idevelop ila talent sa musika para indi sila maimpluwensyahan sang mga lain-lain nga bisyo. (Hopefully they shouldn’t get tired doing what they love to do and their ambitions even how hard it is. They should show their talent and make other people happy, for me that’s enough. They also need to develop their talent in music so that they won’t be influenced by different kinds of vices)

Ano ang maekspektar namon sa imo sa sunod? (What can we expect from you next time?)
Reyn: Basta request lang nila ang akon kanta sa mga radio stations nga gapatukar sini kay gaplano kami maobra sang music video bisan simple lang. Sigurado nga ibutang gid namon ini sa youtube. Ang sunod ko nga kanta “Bahala Ka Na” tani magustuhan man nila. (Just request my song in radio stations that plays it because we plan to make a simple music video. We will surely post it in youtube. My next single is “Bahala Ka Na,” hopefully they will like it)
